"I want to do with you what spring does with the cherry trees."
Pablo Neruda
The Cascais Market or “Mercado da Vila” as it is known in Portuguese, is a local point of interest and a romantic place for any person looking for a bargain on cheap clothing items, fresh fruit and veggies, antiques and memorabilia, or just a walk alongside your partner through one of the oldest and most well-maintained infrastructures in Cascais. The market is also the starting point for one of Cascais’ most magnificent hiking trails, the “Ribeira das Vinhas” hiking trail that goes all the way to Sintra. So how about it? Why not enjoy a day at the market and then explore the scenery alongside your special someone once it is over?

“The The” coffee and esplanade in Cascais has something that most coffee/restaurants/bars don’t, and that is its direct proximity to the Atlantic Ocean. You can sit back, and relax in this rustic, beach-vibe esplanade and enjoy the delicate view of the last hours of the day with that special someone as the sun sets in the west.

There’s something sweet and old-fashioned about a regular picnic in the park, but nothing takes away from the romantic setting it can provide! Especially when the park we are talking about is one of Cascais’ best-hidden gems in my opinion. It’s easy to miss, but watch out for a big gate and zig-zag style downward staircase overlooking a very long stretch of garden. You might find people practicing their morning yoga in tranquility, dogs busy running around exploring with their owners, or local children playing on the jungle gym, but the aesthetic and peaceful tone of the park will make for a very enjoyable outing for you and your partner!

Some say golf is a sport to be enjoyed by only the rich and old. They couldn’t be further from the truth! Did you know that the golf swing is technically considered one of the most complex and physically demanding single movements the human body can perform when done correctly? And by the way, having the dexterity and strength to smack a ball 200 meters across a large stretch of land under the morning sun is sure to impress anyone! So why not grab a nine iron club and your significant other and enjoy a few private lessons at the local golf course at the “Quinta da Marinha” hotel?

As our last entry we have yet another park! But this one sets itself apart from the others as it is also home and sanctuary to a large population of stray cats, mostly abandoned by their owners and left to be taken care of by the local volunteers at the “Gatos do Jardim” park and cat shelter in São Pedro Cascais. You can also volunteer to feed and nurse some of these feline friends and watch them run around their sanctuary in absolute freedom! Grab your partner and take a stroll through this cat haven!
